The MetaHIT project started on January 1st 2008. The project was officially launched on April 11th 2008 at the INRA Research Center of Jouy-en-Josas.

After Nature publication
"A human gut microbial gene catalogue established by metagenomic sequencing", Nature, March 4, 2010
MetaHIT made the cover of the prestigious scientific journal Nature of March 4, 2010. Following this publication, several journals diffused the contents of the article all over the world.
MetaHIT in the International Human Microbiome Consortium
The International Human Microbiome Consortium was launched on the 16th of October, 2008, in Heildelberg, during a meeting organized by MetaHIT. The IHMC is open, at any time, to the funders and PIs of human microbiome research programs.
